Because Playing in the Dirt is Fun

This post is dedicated to all those awesome people who dig around in the dirt and find things from the past. Specifically archaeologists. I’m not trying to play favourites, paleontologists are cool too but, well, they don’t have the problem of: "Oh, so then you dig up dinosaurs?""No, I dig up stuff people left behind.""Oh, well, guess that’s cool too."

Any archaeologist has had to have that conversation, possibly excluding Indiana Jones. And maybe Lara Croft.

But speaking of Dr. Jones, has anyone else read some of the paperbacks about his adventures? If you haven’t then I say pick one up if you don’t mind a bit of cheesy archaeology romance (Mind? Who could mind that when its Indy?). I myself have read Indiana Jones and the Unicorn’s Legacy. God. I should be embarrassed by that fact. It was pretty cheese-tastic but man it was fun. He’s honestly the James Bond of archaeology. I’ve got Indiana Jones and the Peril at Delphi which I hope to crack into soon. I’ll let y’all know how that goes. I expect it to be just as wonderful, especially since it pulls in the Mediterranean which I like.

So, to toast Indy, a glass of scotch.

"The Indy hat stalks its prey, waiting for the perfect moment to strike..."

...Were you expecting a fruity mixed drink? Sorry, that’ll be our next archaeologist. He’s not Mutt, come on. Really anything manly would work but I’m a girl who likes a good glass of scotch every so often, especially when the weather is cooler.

I’d suggest either Chivas or Johnnie Walker black label.

Now I thought about having Lara Croft be the second archaeologist here but well, I am a Transformers girl and there is an archaeologist in the series. Yeah, really. She’s a repaint of G1 Bumblebee with this knight visor like helmet and really, she doesn’t look feminine at all. But she is, and she’s off in the ether studying the Akalouthan culture with her buddy catSCAN. She’s very cute, if a bit... well useless. Archaeologists are not really helpful in wars after all.

So here’s a very sweet and only slightly less nerdy drink than a Shirley Temple.

"A silly fruity drink like this helps a VW like me look like a girl."

Cerulea Glyph
5 parts Sprite
1 part berry vodka
½ part blue Curacao

Pour all ingredients into cocktail glass (or a highball if you have one). Not too hard. You can garnish with a gummi lemon or orange slice wedged on the rim. Its very sweet, so be careful as it can give you a sour stomach from drinking too many.

I should do Lara shouldn’t I? Maybe next time. And I will do drinks that aren’t blue, Glyph was an accidental discovery from a botched Vette Knight.

Hey there!

With the DVD release of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen last week I figure there’s no better way to start off this blog than by doing some Transformers themed drinks.
My favorite character from Transformers is Tracks, a blue corvette stingray with a super sweet flame job on his hood. He’s a bit snooty... But since he’s once sweet piece of steel you can’t blame him. And did I forget to mention that he can fly? Yeah. He should feel awesome. On a fun note about the flying corvettes, a French airplane company actually made small jets named such. Apparently it was a bust though and only 40 were made. Can’t blame anyone on that since French planes have this propensity to suck. I think I could deal with it if I was in an Aerospatiale SN 601 Corvette though. Maybe.

So for G1 Tracks, I made this little drink:

"I'm fabulous, as is this drink, especially in night clubs!"

Autobop
3 parts creme de banana
1 part blue curacao
1 part brandy
1 part berry vodka
½ part Goldschlaegger
1 marachino cherry

Pour the Creme de Banana into a cocktail glass then dropping in the cherry. Shake remaining ingredients with ice and strain then pour over a spoon gently into the glass to get a layered effect.

Now we come to ROTF, where Tracks is painted silver and called Sideswipe. I have no idea why as he acts like Tracks, he has the same alt mode as Tracks, and he is not much like Sideswipe. He’s Tracks in my book. And for the record, he didn’t get near enough screen time. Since he’s a little more slick and high society than his G1 counterpart I figure I’d give him a drink of a similar fashion. Looking for name suggestions for this one, current one is just a place holder really.

-Insert self satisfied smirk and possibly an eyebrow waggle-

‘Vette Knight
4 parts berry vodka
1 part simple syrup
dash of Goldschlaegger
½ part blue curacao

Pour the blue curacao into a cocktail glass that has been chilled in the freezer. Mix remaining ingredients with ice and strain. Pour gently over spoon into glass. Works best if you also keep your vodkas in the freezer. Remember when drinking to smirk and think to yourself: "Damn I’m good."

As for alcohol choices, my only rule is to buy things that come in glass bottles. Never plastic. Never. Pinnacle and Seagrams make a good berry vodka and Seagrams and Finlandia are good plain. Hiram Walker makes a mighty fine creme de banana.
